[Monday October 17th, 2005] So Supanova is finally over for another year. This one was a particularly tough one to get through, as well as having long hours at work this week, this year had a preview night in addition to the usual 2 days. Throw in the fact that I was sick as a bug, meant that in addition to being exhausted, I was also feeling pretty miserable (and grumpy!). The good thing though, was that Supanova seemed like the place for new comics this year, I picked up about $200 worth of books just from Artist's Alley! I haven't had time to work through the pile yet, (and won't get a chance to until I return from my 3 week holiday to the USA) but my biggest discovery so far, is Ben C. I was totally geeking out about the guy all weekend, his art is fantastic. Someone needs to throw him lots and lots of money and get him to draw comics. I'm hoping to trick him into collaborating on something really soon. In other news Impact Comics (Level 1, 45 East Row, Canberra) now stocks Knee Pockets 1 and 2, as well as Diabla #1-3. So go and check out the store if you live in the area, the guy who runs the place seems like a cool guy who's really keen on supporting the Aussie comics scene. KINGS Comics (310 Pitt St, Sydney) will also get some Knee Pockets 1s and 2s in tomorrow (they've been out of stock for a couple months now, but I keep forgetting to restock). Platform Sticky in Melbourne is soon to follow.
There will be a new edition of the original Knee Pockets launching at the Supanova Pop Culture Expo next weekend (Oct 15 and 16). It features an all new cover by Vivienne To (above) as well 3 pages of comics that differ from the first edition. 36 pages, $5AUD. If you already own the original it's not worth buying it again just for the 3 pages (I'll post them on this website at some stage). But if you've never read Knee Pockets before, what better time than now to check it out? Preview 1 | Preview 2 | Preview 3 Unfortunately no Knee Pockets no.3 this year, but there will be assorted mercandise to satisfy even the most hardcore of Knee Pocket fans. Check back later this week for announcements. As with last year, I'll be sharing a table with Marcelo Baez (creator and artist of Diabla) who should have some new prints for sale as well as copies of the fan-favourite Diabla #1-3. |
